Media: Quoted in Washington Post - January 12, 2018
I am quoted about Chinese intelligence doctrine in the Washington Post article about a Chinese company’s purchase of a dating app. One feature of China’s intelligence work is the building of databases of personal information. This information is used to find targets to approach for recruitment. There are many examples ranging from the hacking of local Taiwanese databases to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. China’s intelligence services have found it easier to steal this information off a network than to build it up through interviews.
